Music brightens the spirits of this year's MLK Unity March

Students from Lewis and Clark High School’s marching band led the annual unity march through downtown Spokane. Just before 11 a.m., you could hear their drum warm-ups, calling the unity march to order.

The crowds gathered from the indoor rally at the INB Performing Arts Center to the streets where they marched south on Bernard Street. Their drums were getting louder and louder as they approached the intersection to turn right on Main Avenue.

The parade was led by a Spokane Police vehicle making the path for marchers. The line of participants seemed to go on forever. It truly was a mass of people who continued to pour out into the march.

The whole morning was full of music. As crowds arrived to the indoor rally, the Spokane Community Gospel Mass Choir reigned in listeners with their energy and booming voices.
