Never Leave the Newsroom Without a Pen

A newspaper reporter at Spokane County Courthouse fumbled for a new pen after he realized his current one was dry.

He said to the Sheriff’s Deputy sitting next to him: “A reporter without a pen is like a sheriff with out a ______.” I didn’t catch what that last part was.

The Sheriff’s Deputy replied: “A sheriff without a pen is just as bad.”

There’s a life lesson somewhere in there.
